Whitelisted Addresses
Pre-approving destinations where you can send your digital assets
Whitelisted Addresses
Before you can send digital assets to any external address, that address must be pre-approved through the whitelisting process. This applies to exchanges, counterparties, and external accounts your organization owns.
Why Whitelisting Is Required
Whitelisting protects your organization by:
- Preventing transfers to unauthorized addresses
- Meeting compliance requirements for institutional funds
- Blocking transfers to sanctioned addresses
- Creating an audit trail for regulators and auditors
How Address Approval Works
Step 1: Submit the Address
A user on your team submits an external address with details about who owns it and the business purpose.
Step 2: Compliance Screening
The system checks the address against sanctions lists and known high-risk entities. This happens automatically as part of the submission flow.
Step 3: Internal Approval
After compliance screening, a second person on your team reviews and approves the address. Once approved, it can be used as a withdrawal destination.
Address Statuses
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | Submitted and awaiting approval |
| Approved | Cleared for use as a withdrawal destination |
| Rejected | Declined — address cannot be used |
Types of Addresses to Whitelist
- Exchange deposit addresses — your deposit accounts at exchanges
- Counterparty accounts — other institutional or corporate accounts you transact with
- Your own external accounts — cold storage or accounts held at other providers
Best Practices
Before Submitting
- Verify the address character by character — cryptocurrency transfers are irreversible
- Have the business purpose ready before submitting, as it is required for approval
- Confirm the address is on the correct network for the asset you intend to send
For Compliance Officers
- Document the approval rationale at the time of review
- Reject addresses where ownership or purpose cannot be verified
- Monitor approved addresses for changes in risk profile over time
